Norbulingka is an
institute specially set up for the
preservation of traditional Tibetan arts and
crafts. It is situated at Sidhpur near
Dharamsala town. The Institute is a
registered trust functioning under
chairmanship of His Holiness Dalai Lama. At
present it houses over 300 teachers
,students and workers.
It is purely built
accordingly to the traditional Tibetan style
amidst the
surroundings of beautiful gardens and green
fields of Kangra hills at the backdrop of
majestic Dhauladhar mountains of the outer
Himalayan range. Main attraction of the
institute is its temple which has 1,173
images of Buddha on a 44 foot high temple
hall.
It also
has a 14 foot copper statue of Buddha
Shakyamuni which is the largest ever made in
exile. The special arts and crafts in the
institute include
Thangka paintings, metal sculpture and
wood crafts.
